Question Title VX Configuration Form - CAM Tab

Invoked byUtilities > Configuration... (All Levels)

Use this form to modify the default system configuration for VX CAM.  Some configuration changes may require VX to restart.  If so, your data will be saved to a temporary location while the restart occurs.  You will then be returned to your active session.

Forms and DialoguesCAM Settings

  • Enable Mill2 Tactics (Beta)
Check this box to enable the Mill2 Tactics (Beta) suite.

  • Enable 3 Axis Direct Nurbs
Check this box to enable the 3x Direct Nurbs Rough Milling ad Finish Milling suite

  • Use max surface Z for 3x Clear Z
When this box is checked, a ?Z? clearance position is calculated using the ?Safe Distance? value (specified on the Lead and Link Parameters Tab for each operation) and the highest surface point relative to the ?Frame? coordinate?s ?Z? zero position.  Refer to (Fig. A) and (Fig. B)  below.

Config Form - CAM Tab - Use max surface Z for 3x Clear Z - Fig (a).
(Fig. A)

Config Form - CAM Tab - Use max surface Z for 3x Clear Z - Fig (b).
(Fig. B)

When this setting is unchecked, the max surface point is not used and the Frame Clear Z position is used.

NOTE: This option only applies to the 3x Direct Nurbs Rough Milling and 3x Direct Nurbs Finish Milling suite only and has no influence on other CAM operations.

  • Write Speeds as Integers
When checked, whole number spindle speed values are written to the CL file for post processing.  When unchecked, decimals values are written to the CL file.

  • CAM update mode
This setting sets how the CAM Manager monitors for changes to part and containment geometry and how updates are implemented to toolpath operations.

0 - Off
No monitoring occurs and updating does not occur.

1 - User
As the user, you must check for geometry changes and manually update toolpath operations as needed.

2 - Auto
VX monitors for changes to geometry and notifies you when changes have occurred to either part or containment geometry.

3 - Auto Execute
Same as 2 - Auto, except that the required updates to toolpath operations are made automatically without user intervention.

  • Auto Add all Features
When checked, this will automatically add part and stock features to newly created operations.  If unchecked, you have to manually add features to new operations.

  • Auto add New Features
When checked, this will automatically add newly created CAM features to all existing toolpath operations.  If unchecked, you have to manually add new features to each operation.

  • Move To/From Setup Clear Z
When checked, each operation will start and end at the setup?s ?Clear Z? position.  When unchecked, each operation will start and end at the ?Frame? or local ?Clear Z? position.

Config Form - CAM Tab - Move To/From Setup Clear Z - Fig (a).

Notes Notes ( Move To/From Setup Clear Z):

  1. This setting only has relevance if a ?Frame? is being used in the operation.  If a ?Frame? is not used, the operation will start and end at the Setup?s ?Clear Z? position.

  2. The initial move from this plane and the final move toward it are added to the beginning and the end of the computed toolpath, respectively.

  3. The vector motion is along the ?World Space Z Axis.?  If the ?Local? coordinate system is parallel to the ?World Space? coordinate system, then the ?Z? motion is a continuation along the ?Z? axis in the toolpath and will not be very noticeable.

However, if the ?Local? coordinate system or ?Frame? is not parallel to the ?World Space? coordinate system, then the motion vector will be along the ?World Space? Z axis until it reaches the ?Local? Z clearance position.

  • CAM machine library
    CAM speed and feed
    CAM tool library
    CAM operation library

These fields contain the name of the default VX object file that contains a CAM plan with a library of machines, speed and feed tables, tools and operation definitions. The file can be located in your user directory or any directory defined in the VX Search Paths Form. VX provides default libraries.  See Applying VX CAM for more information.

  • CAM output directory
This field allows you to change the location of CAM output files.
