The CAM Config Updater Form (not shown) is provided to aid users in updating their .cfg configuration files found in the cam_config install directory.
It should be noted that there are several methods available for updating .cfg files which users may have customized. The preferred method for completing the task all-at-once is to use the “CAM Config Updater” (
Tools > Update Cam Config File) on the user’s entire folder containing all of his customized .cfg files.
In order to update the entire folder of .cfg files, this utility requires that the original VX .cfg files are available. This allows the Config Updater to determine which of the changes it finds are from changes made by VX and which changes are from user customization.
Another method for updating .cfg files for a new release of VX is to use the Config File tab of the form to select an individual .cfg file to update. This is less automatic and does provide feedback (very technical feedback) for changes and merges performed on the file.
Another way to update .cfg files one at a time is provided through the icon at the bottom of each Operation Definition Form. The small diskette icon with the hint: "Save current parameters ..."
will also update the configuration file for that Operation type with the current settings in that Parameter form.
Notes
Although the .cfg files can be edited by hand, sometimes this can be a lot of work and any of the above methods should be preferred for updating these files with new releases of VX.
In order to inspect the changes made through these updating methods there are a number of "difference" utilities widely available in Windows. Two are: examdiff.exe and windiff.exe. They will highlight the changes made to convert the user file into the updated .cfg file.
If parameter values are not appearing in the Spread Sheet View for some of your Operations, then perhaps your configuration files are out of date.
They should be updated using one of the above methods.
