Question Title Threaded Shape

Insert > Features (Part Level)

Threaded Shape Use this command to create a threaded shape feature by revolving a closed profile about a cylindrical face and along its linear axis and direction. This command can be used to make thread features or any other shape that is revolved in a linear direction.

The required inputs include the feature type (add or remove), the cylindrical face, the thread profile, the number of turns and the distance per turn. Optionally, you define the revolve direction, spiral direction, lead in/out options and lead in/out radius.

  • Select the feature type icon. For the Add, Remove and Intersect types, the topology of the active part will be altered by the feature created. The Base option is automatically selected if the active part has no shape geometry. A separate base feature will be created. Base features are used to define the initial basic shape of a part

  • Face F
Select the cylindrical face on the stock.

  • Profile P
Select the profile for the thread. You can select a sketch, curves, edges or a curve list. You can also right-click and make a curve list using the input options.

  • Turns T
    Specify the number of turns.

  • Distance D - Specify the distance along the axis for each turn. A positive distance will be measured in the direction of the axis arrow.

Optional Inputs  Optional Inputs

  • Revolve clockwise
Check this box to revolve the thread clockwise about the axis of the cylindrical face

  • Reverse spiral direction
Check this box to reverse the spiral direction of the thread.

  • Lead in/out
Use this option to specify where the lead in/out is to be located. Select None, Start, End or Both ends.

  • Radius
If a Lead in/out is selected (see above), specify the radius of the transition. This determines a pivot point for the lead in/out and contributes to the shape of the lead in/out transition. Skip this option if no lead in/out is specified.

For lead in, the pivot point radius is measured from the point on the profile closest to the axis of rotation. For lead out, the point on the profile farthest away from the axis is used.
