Question Title Recover Faces

Utilities (Part Level)

This command does not heal face geometry/topology in the sense that other healer functions improve "bad" geometry or topology. This command will ATTEMPT to recover face information stored in a part database if the database was corrupted to the point that VX was unable to traverse it using standard functionality.

Try using the Fix Objects command to repair object references in the database first before using this command. This command tries to extract face geometry/topology from the database without following the usual traversal path through shapes. If the face topology cannot be traversed, then default (i.e. square) topology is assigned to the face geometry.

If neither geometry nor topology can be extracted for a face, then the face is ignored. Faces that can be recovered are saved in a temporary area, the part’s b-rep (boundary representation) is totally cleared, then the faces are re-added to the part’s b-rep and they are re-sewn using the active tolerance, which could be different than the tolerance originally used when creating and modifying the faces. This means that shapes are recreated based on a new set of faces and possibly a new tolerance, which means edges may be split differently when the faces are re-sewn.

All shapes are visible after this command. Faces that were originally exploded may be rejoined to adjacent faces, since a global sew operation is applied to all recovered faces. If one or more faces could not be recovered, a "closed" shape may become open.

CAUTION: This command can lose some faces, regroup or re-sew faces, split edges differently, and lose shape visibility because of the way it attempts to directly extract data from the database and reconstruct it into shapes.

It is not a command you would typically run simply to see what sort of clean-up it might do on face geometry. This is a command of last resort to use when modeling starts failing because of a corrupt part database.

If you receive one of the following error messages, try using this command to resolve the problem after you read the above command description and note. This command maintains face display attributes.

Unable to load topology table (try "Fix Objects" then "Recover Faces").

Or

"Unable to locate Face ###".
