Tips & Techniques

VX Tips & TechniquesThe file extensions (e.g., *.igs, *.stp) of non-VX files are only used by VX for listing them in the File Browser. VX reads the contents of the file to determine compatibility. If you have a non-VX file from a system that is supported by VX (e.g., Parasolid, IGES, etc.) but the extension of the file does not match those listed in the File Browser, try renaming the file to the supported extension, and then import it

VX Tips & TechniquesMake sure the View options of Windows Explorer is set to show file extensions. Otherwise, renaming will not provide access to the file extension.

Notes

  1. An import log file "genvx.log" is generated during a Catia, Pro/ENGINEER and Unigraphics imports and is located in your "user directory/temp" folder.

  2. Application Versions Currently Supported:

    CATIA Import
The CATIA-to-VX module converts CATIA models in a Export or Model file format into a VX part. The CATIA data files can be in either EBCDIC or ASCII format. The translator converts only CATIA 3D Space entities. It accepts input files created with CATIA Version 4.0.

    CATIA Export
The VX-to-CATIA module converts a VX part to a CATIA model in an EXPORT or MODEL file format. The output CATIA data files are written in ASCII format. The translator converts all 3D IGES entities to CATIA 3D Space entities. It writes output CATIA files that are compatible with CATIA Version 4.0.

By default VX creates an EXPORT file. To output a MODEL file, change the file extension to ".model" when the File Browser is displayed.

    Pro/ENGINEER import
The Pro/ENGINEER-to-VX module converts Pro/ENGINEER part files (*.prt*) into a VX part. It accepts part files created with Pro/ENGINEER up to Version 2001 with date code 2001150.

    Unigraphics import
The Unigraphics-to-VX module converts Unigraphics and Parasolid part files into a VX part. The translator converts only Unigraphics 3D Space entities. It accepts input files created with Unigraphics Version 18.0 and Parasolid files Version 13.

    IGES
    4.0 through 5.3

    STEP
AP203 and AP214 geometry and assemblies
    (AP214 is the Automotive Standard)

    STL
ASCII, binary and those with double precision data.
